DIY: Chanel 2.55 Cake

Every now and then, a girl indulges in new clothes but let’s face it, sweets are nice treats too! So that’s why Birdy and I decided to do something during the day: make a crazy cake! The Chanel 2.55 immediately popped in mind… We were serious about making one, so the next day we bought supplies and there we were baking a cake, like a boss!

Of course, sharing mouth-watering pictures is not enough… That’s why I’ll be sharing you step by step what you have to do! Good luck and don’t give up like we did a bit at the end :D

Preparing the cake to put in the oven is the first step. We knew we had a lot of work to do with the finishing touches of the cake, so we opted to go for prepared cake dough by Herta with both chocolate and vanilla. We filled 3 rectangular cake pans (buttered them first of course + some powdered sugar) with the marble cake dough from Herta and while the cakes were rising and become even more yummy then the dough – oops, sorry mom, I always eat the dough even though you taught me not to – we started making the chocolate buttercream.

We used these ingredients from Savory Sweet Life but ours didn’t turn out so chocolate brown but it was delish!

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks or 1/2 pound), softened (but not melted!)
  • 3 1/2 cups confectioners (powdered) sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon table salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract or 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 4 tablespoons milk or heavy cream

After making the buttercream, start making the small details on the bag, such as the Chanel sign, the chains and last but not least the ‘leather’ of the bag! To make all of this, you’ll need cake fondant, which apparently exists in every color possible! We bought one white and 2 black ones. We covered the white with gold paint dust to make it look like actual chains. Don’t panic, everything we used, is eatable… Weird, huh?!

By now, the cakes will be ready and not at all in the shape you want them to be, that’s why you have to cut them to be flat so you can stack one onto another. The buttercream will come in between every piece and also around the whole cake, before you put the fondant around it. You’ll have to knead the fondant until it’s flat enough, cut it in the right size and draw the seams onto the bag. Then take the fondant and cover the cake with it. Put the final details on them to finish it up.

There you go… Piece of Chanel cake!

South Africa is still on my mind… and in my photo albums! Today, I wanted to share with you the most amazing experience of the trip: our safari! Safari means long journey in Swahili and even though we were there for two days only, it felt very long… In a good way! We did two trips with the safari jeep and a guide and we also went quad biking twice! Amazing is probably the word I’d use to describe what we’ve seen…

The title is a little inside joke we had in the Aquila Game Reserve on our first day. I’ll never forget that, like I’ll never forget all the good things and memories we had there! Speaking of rhinos, have you heard? Cruel people all over the world are killing the poor things for their horns because it’s worth lots of money. The thing is, they actually don’t really kill them… They cut off the horn and leave them dying out there. Our game reserve has them on watch 24/7 because two of them got killed recently. Very shocking to hear and touching to see how those people actually care about their animals. As you can see, I’ve seen a lot of beautiful creatures and I definitely want to go back to Africa to explore some more!
